It is more than possible that Marvel could follow in the footsteps of the Star Wars franchise and release a game that includes downloadable content of exclusive footage ( as they are doing with Battlefront). They could also take cue from the Mad Max franchise and introduce a game that expands the mythos, but acts as a standalone title in the canon. It would make sense that the game would contribute something to the current shared universe, and if it does, the question is what. Though there isn't any official information as to which character(s) the game will feature, there is some early speculation as to what it may have to offer the MCU as a whole (if the game will have anything to do with it, that is). And now that Marvel is going even further with the recent announcement of a new Spider-Man animated movie in 2018, it's about time they take the next step. Marvel has done a fantastic job recently growing their shared universe and introducing new iterations of characters who weren't always at the forefront of people's minds, while consistently announcing confirmed characters for future films and expanding with new TV shows.
